Lamborghini 400 GT Flying Star II

Displayed in the 1966 Turin Auto Show for the first time, the Lamborghini 400 GT Flying Star II is that car which carries the glory of being the last car ever designed and manufactured by Touring, an automobile film who had a prestigious record of 40 years of fine work.

Ending its journey in the same year when the Turin Auto Show was held in 1966, Touring displayed two of its models in the auto show which were named as the Fiat 124 convertible and the Flying Star II. The Flying Star II car is a little bit like the 3500 GTZ only, another model by Touring, which also is mounted on a 10 cm shortened chassis.

However, the angular lines of the body of the car and roof design were not praised much and the car could not impress buyers as a Lamborghini. With the roof design given to the model, it looked more like a station wagon. The interior of the car too was not impressive which although was designed for two passengers only with space for luggage, was unnecessarily spacious. Designed by a team led by Carlo Anderloni who was the son of the founder of the firm, the shortcomings of the car cannot be overlooked.

The Lamborghini 400 GT Flying Star II was bought by a French writer Françoise Sagan’s brother, Jacques Quoirez and since then is a French-registered car. However, this car has spent much time of its life in the USA and United Kingdom!
