Lamborghini UrracoItalian automaker Lamborghini introduced Urraco, a sports car during the 1970s. Lamborghini showcased it at an auto show in Turin in the year 1970. However, it wasn’t until 1973 that this car was made available to the buyers.

Marcello Gandini from Carrozzeria Bertone designed the body of this car, which was a two plus two coupe and unlike the Lamborghini Miura, a supercar, this was more affordable. It can be said that it was an alternative of the present Maserati Merak and Ferrari Dino.

In 1979, Lamborghini aborted the production of this car and by that time it had manufactured 791 Urracos. Out of these, 21 models were called Urraco PIII and were specially designed for the American market. This model had bigger front bumpers and controlled emissions, resulting in a less powerful engine. This was done because American regulations had strict guidelines and they had to follow them. The other versions of the Lamborghini Urraco were the Urraco P250, Urraco P300 and Urraco P200, with 3 litre, 2.5 litre and 2 litre V-8 respectively.Lamborghini Urraco1

Lamborghini later on built the Lamborghini Silhouette, which had a detachable roof panel, followed by Lamborghini Jalpa, which had a 3.5 ltr V-8 engine. Both these cars were based on the Urraco.

The Lamborghini Urraco has managed to stay in news even after its production stopped in 1979. In 2005, it got featured in the Top gear segment and was placed against its arch rivals Maserati Merak and Ferrari Dino. It has definitely been able to sustain its legacy over the years.
